About Humble Abode
Humble in name.
Extraordinary in build.
Founded by a carpenter who couldn't accept 'near enough', Humble Abode exists to build the homes volume builders can't.
Jarrod Gaget — Founder & Director
Twenty years
on the tools.
Jarrod started his apprenticeship in 2005 and had his own carpentry business by 21. A building licence followed in 2016, Humble Abode in 2018 — and since 2021 it's been his whole world. He still walks every site, still checks every frame, and still gives every client his mobile number.
Away from site he's a family man first — which is exactly the lens he builds through. Every decision on your home gets the same test: would I put my family in this?
PROTOTYPE NOTE — this section is reserved for the professional photos of Jarrod (and family, if he's game) discussed in the brief. Current image is a stand-in.
The path here
Built the long way.
The apprenticeship
Four years learning that speed means nothing if the frame isn't straight.
Own carpentry business at 21
Framing and fixing for Melbourne builders — and quietly noting everything the volume guys got wrong.
Registered builder
The licence that turned a standard into a business plan.
Humble Abode founded
First projects delivered nights and weekends — every one still under guarantee, every client still a referee.
A handful of homes a year, on purpose
We cap our schedule so the director can actually direct. If you want a builder with 40 sites, we're not it — happily.
What we hold ourselves to
Three values, no posters.
Imagination
Every block has one best home in it. Our job is to find it — not force a floorplan onto it.
Functionality
Beautiful that doesn't work isn't beautiful for long. We design for Tuesday night, not just the photos.
Ease
Building should be exciting, not exhausting. One contact, straight answers, no surprises.
